Amanda Sovik-Johnston, Ph.D.

I am the founder and CEO of A&C Family Therapy.  My vision has always been to help families and our community while also being able to enjoy raising my own family.  In 2014, I opened the doors of my solo private practice while my husband, Robert Johnston, MD,  was pursuing a medical degree in Psychiatry and our children were babies and toddlers. It was a crazy time, but we laid the foundation for a practice committed to developing relationships, learning and teaching, and contributing to our community.  With the help of bright and motivated clinicians, A&C has grown across the state of Virginia and Internationally, and I am so proud of the people on our team and the help they are providing. As part of A&C, I host the podcast Active and Connected Families, a top 200 parenting podcast on Apple.

I have worked with youth and families for over twenty-five years.  My current clinical focus is on women in leadership and high-achieving athletes.  Other experience includes work in residential settings, school psychology, and medical psychology. I have served as adjunct faculty at UVA’s Clinical and School Psychology Department and co-authored the curriculum for the Young Women Leaders Program. I also co-founded Charlottesville Families in Action, a group dedicated to making community engagement a family value.

I live in Charlottesville, VA and earned my Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees from the University of Virginia. I generally love sports and continue to swim competitively, winning the Masters National Championship in the 200 Butterfly. My husband, Robert, and I continue to be committed to helping families while also running (and cleaning!) after our three blonde boys. We feel thankful to be doing this together!
