Hillary Johns-Parson, LCSW
I specialize in adolescents, young adults, and parents. I am passionate about improving family relationships and helping individuals find ways to lead fulfilling lives, even in the most challenging of situations. I assist with a variety of life struggles including anxiety, depression, life transitions, anger, and trauma. I use my personal experience as a military spouse as well as my professional experience in working with military service members and their families living overseas to assist people in learning to navigate the unique challenges and joys that an expat lifestyle brings.
As a former school social worker, I also have a unique understanding of school age children and the special education system. I come to my work most importantly from a strengths-based perspective. What this means to me is that you already come to our work with strengths; together we can work to apply them in new ways, harness them to build new skills, and increase self-esteem. I also utilize modalities such as Motivational Interviewing, Family Systems Theory, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to support you in achieving your goals. I currently live in East Africa with my spouse and our toddler. We also have two third culture cats who are on their third overseas posting and ninth duty station. I like to add joy to my life by cooking, baking, and traveling (or looking up where I might be able to go next). I am looking forward to connecting with you.
