Leta Ramsey, LPC
I specialize in helping adolescents, young adults, parents, and families struggling with anxiety, depression, anger, identity exploration, relational issues, stress, and neurodivergence. I welcome clients from diverse backgrounds and identities and am passionate about supporting young individuals and collaborating with natural support systems. I strive to help people nurture their strengths and equip them with skills they need to navigate life’s challenges.
As a therapist, focus on building a genuine and trusting therapeutic relationship with my clients. I believe in unconditional positive regard, empathy, authenticity, and collaboratively working with clients. I use a relational lens to conceptualize difficulties, recognizing that relationships are not confined to the therapeutic space but extend to the connections clients have forged in their world, which significantly shape present experiences. To meet the unique needs and strengths of my clients, I draw from different modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing. With younger clients, I use developmentally appropriate techniques to provide a safe and engaging space, which may involve play therapy, activity therapy, and expressive arts.
I earned my BS in Community, Family, and Addiction Services from Texas Tech University. I continued my education at the University of North Texas where I obtained my MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling. Before counseling, I was a special education teacher, which not only equipped me with a distinctive view of the educational landscape, but also deepened my passion for mental health.
I love live concerts, scenic drives, camping adventures with my husband, skiing, cuddles with my 80-lb lapdog, Peloton rides, true crime podcasts, all things Halloween, and quality time with my niece and nephew who are constantly teaching me new things. My husband and I moved to Alexandria in 2023, relocating from Tacoma, Washington. As an Army spouse, moving closer to loved ones and being embraced by our local community has been a privilege, and I look forward to giving back with my work at Active and Connected. I see clients in person and via telehealth at our Arlington/Alexandria and Falls Church locations.
