Liz Bordogna, MA

Hi there! I am a Resident in Counseling under the supervision of Dayna Kumar, LPC. I specialize in working with children and young families, particularly mothers of young children. I work with children with behavioral challenges as well as children with ADHD, anxiety, and autism spectrum disorders. I also help support parents as they work through challenging stages in their child’s development because raising young children is nothing if not a constant source of both joy and challenge!

Working with parents, I often draw from a mindful self-compassion approach as well as offering concrete problem-solving for the everyday challenges of living and thriving with young children. I believe that as parents, your relationship with your child is your superpower. Together, we’ll find the strategies and supports you need to strengthen that connection and make your family life work for you.

Working with children, I utilize cognitive-behavioral and play therapy interventions to make the therapeutic process fun and accessible for my youngest clients. I also enjoy incorporating creative activities based on an individual’s strengths and interests and using the power of the outdoors to help children and families get regulated and connected.

I came to counseling after over a decade of teaching experience, and I have my primary classroom training from the American Montessori Society. I have worked in schools both as an educator and most recently as part of a Therapeutic Day Treatment (TDT) team supporting students with emotional and behavioral difficulties during their school day.

I live with my husband and four young children in Charlottesville, and you can often find us outside exploring playgrounds, hiking trails, and swimming holes. In my free time, I enjoy reading mysteries, listening to podcasts, training for my next half marathon, and the elusive and magical weekend nap.

My motto for working with clients is: We can do hard things. When we struggle, we grow. We get stronger every day!

I look forward to meeting you to work through the hard stuff and get stronger together!
