Terah Johnson, MSW
I am a Supervisee in Clinical Social Work. I have over sixteen years of experience and training in the field of social work, in particular working with under-resourced communities of color in a variety of settings. I specialize in working with children, along with their families, from middle childhood to late adolescence who are experiencing crises, various forms of trauma, abuse, neglect, and difficult life transitions that may affect their mental health as well as their academic performance. By utilizing cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) and strength-based approaches, my goal is to empower clients with the necessary coping skills to navigate day-to-day challenges.
As a School Social Worker in Camden, New Jersey, I co-developed an after-school mentoring program entitled “Boys on the Rise” for upper elementary-aged boys. This program sought to emotionally, psychologically, and academically support male scholars who were identified as needing extra support. These group sessions, which included individual and team-building exercises and activities, addressed a variety of character and life skills topics. Earlier in my career, I spent 6 years working in several departments (Family Preservation, Investigations, and Foster Care) of the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) in Georgia, where I gained a wealth of knowledge about assessing children’s needs, improving their well-being, and enhancing parental practices and behaviors.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications from Tennessee State University and my Master of Social Work from Clark Atlanta University. Currently, I am a Supervisee in Clinical Social Work under the supervision of Jesse Dice, LCSW.I enjoy working out, spending time with my family, and watching NFL games.
I am presently accepting clients on a part-time basis. I work out of the Charlottesville- Pantops office.
